The History Department at CCSU offers comprehensive programs for undergraduate and graduate students. Our faculty are widely respected scholars, active in their fields, and honored for their teaching. We offer courses spanning a wide range of times, places and subjects including:

  • Ancient History
  • Medieval and Modern Europe
  • Africa and the African Diaspora
  • Latin America
  • East Asia and the Pacific Rim
  • The Middle East and West Asia
  • The United States

The Department is home to Connecticut History, the only scholarly journal dedicated to the state’s past, and the Stanislaus A. Blejwas Endowed Chair in Polish and Polish American Studies. In addition, we offer an M.A. degree in Public History as well as opportunities for undergraduates to explore this exciting career track.

Central to the department’s mission is our secondary education program leading to teacher certification. We are certified by both the National Council for the Social Studies and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, providing prospective teachers with strong content knowledge and classroom skills. We are also the academic home of AMERICAN VOICES, a Teaching American History grant program funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
