EFHBIKA - EPHEBIKA
This is a Table of the Attic ephebic catalogues of the Roman imperial period
(Augustus-3rd c. A.D.), which will be constantly expanded and improved. The
Table presents the catalogues according to their current numbering, but this
will be adjusted and the catalogues renumbered to accord with the chronological
changes [cf. Simone Follet, Athènes
(1976) 8, note 3, and Prometheus 20
(1994) 237, note 28]. Reference may be made to this Table with due recognition.
The dates are A.D., unless stated differently, and plain, number references are
to IG II2. The Greek fonts are Athenian. All rights reserved.

NOTE. The above text deviates
at times from Daly’s. Line 1 ad
init.: The name may be restored as [ÉAr]x€aw (Daly), but the xia should be dotted, with the patronymic appearing to have
an initial N, that is, N`i`k`.[-]; the tip of the lower vertical stroke of a F, as shown, appears to be preserved
above the patronymic sign ) of line 2, which may be the beginning of a demotic F[lueÁw]/F[alhreÁw]/F[ulãsiow], for example. Line
2 ad init.: the KLE should be dotted, because there is damage there. Line 5: Gorg€an
ÉArxit€mou (Daly: Gorg€[[an ÉArxi]]t€mou); the letters ianarx are clearly read, but
they seem to be crowded (the result of a correction?). No comment on the
prosopography at this time. [11 Noem/Nov. 2009]

Line 2: Ma[ray≈nion]
rather than Mar````[`ay≈nion]. No
room for reading a rho.
Line 3: ÉOn[ãsou] and
not ÉOnã`[sou]. No space for reading
an alpha.
Line 4: kosmh[teÊsantow ]
is the correct reading, if the honorand was a kosmetes
at the time. There cannot
be two kosmetai simultaneously.
Line 5: pat[°ra] than
pat°[``ra]. The breakage there may be
part of the epsilon,
but it is not absolute.
Line 6: [svfro]s`Ê[nhw] is a more appropriate restoration,
especially if the
honorand was a kosmetes at the time. S. Follet, 455,
has called attention to the kosmetes of
2111/2, lines 1-2: Mçrkow/ ÉIoÊliow ZÆnvn
Maray≈niow, of 185/6 [dated therein].
Onasos (Palleneus) was kosmetes in the archonship of Cl. Lysiades (3744 above), and he
appears to be the same, though lacking the nomen
Flavius in both documents, with the ephebe Fl.
ÖOnasow Pal. (gumnas€arxow ka‹
égvnoy°thw ÉAntino. §n ÉEleu.) of 2049, lines 21-22, of 142/3 [Fl. GaianÚw Pal.,
lines 19-20, may be his brother]. If he is the same,
then his kosmeteia would date from a
year of the period of 162/3-182/3, when he would have been 40-60 years old. See
under 3744 above. (meleta)
