These pages will help you get all the information you need to become a state-certified History & Social Studies secondary (7-12) teacher.

The CCSU History Department coordinates one of the largest teacher preparation programs at the University and one of the largest History & Social Studies programs in the state. Our graduates teach in middle and high schools throughout Connecticut and New England and often serve as cooperating teachers for the next generation of students.

Whether you are an undergraduate interested in becoming a teacher, have a BA degree and want to return to school to get certified as a teacher, have already been accepted into the Professional Program, or are one of our graduates, this section of the History Department’s website should help you find out everything you need to know.

The School of Education and Professional Studies administers the elementary education programs in History, History/English (Linguistics), and History/English (Writing).
