Overview for the BSEd in History Degree for elementary education certification (39 credits)
 

The BSEd in History (elementary education) prepares students for careers as History teachers at the primary level. The degree emphasizes breadth in US, European, and non-Western history.
 
 
Core requirements:  
HIST 121 and 122 (World Civilization) 6 cr.
HIST 301  (The Historical Imagination) 3 cr.
HIST 490 (Senior Seminar) 3 cr.
 
U.S. History (at the 300 level) 9 cr.
European History (at the 200-level or above) 6 cr.
Non-Western History  (at the 200-level or above) 6 cr.
Electives 6 cr.


Additional information:

  • Please note that all history majors are required to complete 12 credits at the 400-level. Students must complete HIST 301 prior to their first 400-level course.
  • Students may not double-count courses within the major.
  • BSEd History (elementary education) students should note that courses on the advising form marked with an asterisk (*) must be completed before applying to the professional program.
