Overview for the BSEd in History Degree for secondary education certification (57 credits)
 

The BSEd in History (secondary education) prepares students for careers as History/Social Science teachers. This intensive degree requires breadth of knowledge in history and the social sciences, as well as considerable depth in US and world history.
 
 
Core requirements:  
HIST 121 and 122 (World Civilization) 6 cr.
HIST 301  (The Historical Imagination) 3 cr.
HIST 490 (Senior Seminar) 3 cr.
 
U.S. History (at the 300 level) 12 cr.
European History (at the 200-level or above) 6 cr.
Non-Western History  (at the 200-level or above) 6 cr.
Electives 9 cr.
Related Social Science Courses 12 cr.

PS 104 or 110;SOC 110; ECON 200 and 201

 

Additional information:

  • Please note that all history majors are required to complete 12 credits at the 400-level. Students must complete HIST 301 prior to their first 400-level course.
  • Students may not double-count courses within the major.
  • Please note that for this degree ANTH 140 and either GEOG 110 or 120 are required in General Education.
